RESEARCH

Research gives us honesty.

We reduce uncertainty before anyone spends money on a guess. For four decades, cities, counties, transit authorities, airports, credit unions, health systems, schools and national brands have hired HCP to find out what is actually true.

BEFORE DESIGN, THERE IS RESEARCH

Evidence before action. Since 1986.

HCP began as a research driven marketing firm, and the discipline its founder brought from Procter & Gamble is still the first rule of the practice. We do not begin with a campaign idea. We begin with a question the organization cannot yet answer, and we build a study capable of answering it.

That means representative samples, disclosed methodology, and findings written so a board, an auditor or a reporter can follow how the conclusion was reached. Research is where the honesty in this firm comes from. Everything downstream, the strategy and the marketing, is only as sound as the study underneath it.

WHAT WE DO

Twelve ways we find out what is true.

Every engagement is built from the same toolkit, assembled around the decision in front of you.

01

Community & Citizen Sentiment

Statistically valid surveys of residents, riders, visitors and voters, built to represent a whole population rather than the loudest part of it.

02

Quantitative Studies

Telephonic, online and mixed method surveys with defined sampling, weighting and margin of error, so the numbers hold up when someone asks how you got them.

03

Focus Groups & Interviews

Moderated focus groups and in depth stakeholder interviews that explain the why behind the percentages.

04

Employee Voice & Culture

Confidential internal studies that tell leadership what the organization actually believes about itself.

05

Brand & Advertising Awareness

Awareness, recall and perception studies that connect marketing spend to recognition, market by market.

06

Customer & Member Research

Satisfaction, loyalty and expectation research for credit unions, health systems, schools and consumer brands.

07

Intercept & Visitor Studies

On site passenger, rider and visitor intercepts that capture people in the moment of the experience.

08

Market & Feasibility Studies

Opportunity sizing, market entry and use evaluation for organizations weighing a real investment.

09

Tracking & Longitudinal Research

Studies repeated year over year on the same instrument, so change is measurable rather than anecdotal.

10

Instrument & Methodology Design

Questionnaire design, sampling plans and methodology review, including work as the research partner to other consultants.

11

Analysis & Reporting

Cross tabulation, segmentation and written findings that separate what is significant from what is noise.

12

Presentation to Boards & the Public

Findings presented to boards, commissions, councils and the press, in language a public audience can follow.

HOW WE WORK

Four steps, in this order, every time.

01

Define the decision

We start with the decision the research has to serve, not the questionnaire. If the study will not change what you do, we say so.

02

Design the instrument

Question wording, response scales, sampling frame and methodology are built together and reviewed with your leadership before anything goes to field.

03

Collect the data

Telephone, online, intercept or in person, run to a representative sample of the population you are accountable to.

04

Report what it means

Findings, not data dumps. Written analysis, board ready presentation, and a baseline you can measure against next time.

THE OPERATING SYSTEM

Research. Strategy. Marketing.

This is not a tagline. It is the operating system of the firm. Research gives us honesty. Strategy gives us direction. Marketing gives ideas life in the real world. When these three meet, creativity stops being decoration and becomes momentum.
